26 Weeks Pregnant

26 Weeks Pregnant

How far along: 26 Weeks.

How big is baby: Measuring about 14 inches long, she weighs just less than 2 pounds.

Total weight gain: 23 lbs. total.

Maternity Clothes: Yes

Sleep: The same…hit or miss.  I sleep awesome when I’m exhausted, that’s about it.

Best moment of the week:  My blood work came back all okay. So that means this itchy prickly rash I have is not caused by liver problems or failure. Also, I did my glucose tolerance test and that was all good too.  Another great accomplishment (or I should say something large checked off my list) was that Bobby put together her crib and her room is starting to look like a nursery.

Food Cravings:  Nothing. Still back to complete normal.

Food Aversions: Nothing.

Symptoms:  The rash, the acne (although it’s gotten SO much better), back aches, stretching, and round ligament pain. I don’t want anyone freaking out (after you read this) but I was having what my doctor called contractions.  While I was at work Thursday and Friday (Friday was worse), I was feeling intermittent, strong, intense pains that literally took my breath away and were so bad that I could not move, stand, walk or breathe. But moments later (not even 20-30 seconds) they were gone, completely gone, as if they never even happened. So therefore, I went about my day, walked my normal 12 hours a day as a nurse and continued to dehydrate myself as I am not allowed to drink fluids on the unit I work on. Finally on Friday they got so intense that I called my doctor to explain. She insisted I go home, put my feet up and rest with lots of water. So I did. Bobby was still gone in New Orleans but thankfully was coming home that night. The pain still continued. She finally called me after delivery the baby she was in the process of delivering when I called her earlier and she told me that she thinks it sounds like contractions. She thinks I am over working, over stressing and not getting enough fluids. I had to completely and totally agree with her there. Usually, I’m stubborn and will not admit to such, but I knew that I was guilty of all three. She told me to record when I was having each pain and how long it lasted.  Honestly, I’ve only felt it 3 or 4 times, irregularly on Saturday.  I felt better, but still a lot of pain and pressure in my pelvic area. Since this is my first pregnancy, I keep telling myself that this is normal and that maybe this is how it’s supposed to be. But when the pain is gone, it’s gone. So I know that these little bouts here and there are not normal. I’m taking it easy this week. I’m not due back to the hospital until Thursday for my Nurse Residency meeting and then I work Friday. If I couldn’t do it, I wouldn’t. If I thought the baby was in jeopardy, I’d stop. But for now, I want to work. I need to work. I am not the sit around and do nothing all day type, most of you know this. I hope to work all the way until the end. I hope. So please don’t tell me that I need to “stop working!” You all know it’s easier said than done and the bills don’t stop flowing for a pregnant woman. So just understand I am telling you this as a just in case type of thing, not to hear anyone tell me things like “stop working”, “get rest”, “drink more water”.  I get it. I know what I’m supposed to do and I appreciate the concerns but really, I’m okay and so is baby.

Mood: Anxious, hopeful, trying to stay positive. I want her to cook as long as she can!

Movement: Lots and lots of movement this week.

What I’m looking forward to:  Going to Michigan.

What I miss: Warmer weather. I’m tired of itching.
