A Very First Father’s Day and Back To Work

dsc_50871

I hate to say that I’ve been busy or too busy to post this much deserved post, but I have. I went back to work on Friday. I have been off work since the middle of February on maternity leave and short-term disability.

Needless, to say it was a rough weekend. Not only because I had to leave Josie (three days in a row), but also since I am still a newer nurse. It was scary to be thrown back into it. Luckily, the nurse that trained me on the floor I work on worked with me Friday and Saturday. She is so great at encouraging me and making me feel competent. She is seriously the best. I admire her so, so much. She literally is the BEST nurse I have ever met or worked with. I got really lucky to have been paired up with her from the beginning. She has a heart of gold.

So I guess you can say that I am happy to be back to work. I never thought I’d say that. Working while I was pregnant as a new nurse was hard. But I feel better now, day-by-day. And it feels good to get out of the house and be around people. But I miss Josie. Luckily, I only work Friday, Saturday and Sunday and have the rest of the week off. We are blessed enough that Bobby’s work understands our schedules and that we have a baby. They allow him to work from home on the Friday that he is supposed to be in the office (he has every other Friday off). We are so lucky and grateful for that. It’s so important that Josie has at least one of us at all times. Not a stranger. Besides, this is a great way for her and Bobby to spend time together.

He does such a great job at taking care of Josie. Which is what led me to this post. I wanted to make him something for Father’s Day (I had such a good idea in mind) but haven’t had a chance to make it to the store. At first, he didn’t want me to spend the money on it, but he had no idea that it was for Father’s day. After he found out that it was for Father’s Day and how badly I wanted to make this for him, he told me to make it then. I will probably go tomorrow to get a few things and put something together for him. He will love it!

Bobby and I are really into getting each other cards for every holiday and special occasion or “just because”. We have always been that way. We may not buy each other gifts all the time, (because we pretty much buy everything we want anyway) we always make sure we give each other cards with something special written inside. We have boxes full of them and keep each and every one. I love that about us. And love going back and reading them.

Since this was his very first Father’s Day, I wanted to make it special. But it was hard since I worked. So I bought him a card from Josie and wrote this inside:

You are the greatest Daddy,

And I just want you to know,

You are so strong and brave,

You are my very own hero.

You change my dirty diaper;

You wash my milky face,

You pick me up and hold me,

I love your warm embrace.

You read me bedtime stories,

Tuck me in and kiss me goodnight,

You Watch me, as I grow sleepy,

You make sure that I’m alright.

Thank you for being so gentle,

And patient when I’m cranky,

For cleaning up my spit up,

And giving me my blankie.

You’re always there beside me,

To make sure that I don’t fall,

You really are the very best,

Daddy of them all.

I’ll always be your Patootie,

As I’m growing in every way,

I love you so much, Daddy,

Happy Father’s Day!

My husband is amazing. He is my best friend, my soul mate, my ‘tell everything to’. Even on some days…my punching bag. He understands me more than I understand myself sometimes. And is more patient with me than I deserve. He has a heart that never stops loving and is so great at reminding me how much he loves me both in words and in his actions. He buys me everything and anything I want. And spoils me beyond what I deserve. And still manages to surprise me with flowers and gifts like brand new kitchen knives or earrings. Weird, I know. But I love cooking and I love cutting up vegetables. Spending time cooking is a great stress reliever for me. And he knows I love my good cutting knives.

Bobby is an amazing father to Josie. He never loses his patience. Ever. He is always loving on her, talking to her and is so quick to get up in the middle of the night if needed with absolutely no questions asked. He’s a natural, really. He picked up this fatherhood thing just like everything else he’s so great at. He’s constantly helping me, doing this and that for me and still manages to work his butt off at work and keep this house in tip top shape. He’s the least lazy person I know. I still don’t know how I ever got so lucky and so blessed to be married to such a wonderful man. Such a wonderful Father. Such a wonderful best friend. I’m no longer the luckiest girl on Earth…Josie is. She has no idea, yet, just how lucky she is to have him as her Daddy.

I love you Bobby. You are an amazing husband, lover, best friend and most of all, Father to our little Patootie. We both love you very, very much. To the Moon and Back.

Happy first Father’s Day.
